Einstein Lab

The Work Itself

This is a remix assignment, I have never done this before. It is titled Fantastic Imaginary Buildings [Remixed]: Mood Swap, its instructions are as follows “using an image editor like Photoshop or GIMP, edit together found images of buildings and structures to create what Kazanjian calls a “hyper-collage.”  Look for and select interesting elements of buildings that can be fitted together into a coherent scene. Try to make your image unique to you, creating some kind of dream-like imaginary building. Be sure to think about the “setting” that your building is located in. Your end product should be a back-and-white image.” Those are original instructions, the remix card asks to “flip the mood of the assignment. If it’s light, make it dark. If it’s sad, make it happy. If it’s exhilarating, make it not so exhilarating.” Here it is on my flickr. It is rated 4.5 total stars for difficulty.

The Story Behind The Story

The building in the back is what I am referring to. It is the refurnished and renovated home of the late Albert Einstein. It is located on a private lot and is under the supervision and control of the local government. It is rumored that is used as a scientific laboratory for the greatest scientists in the world. It is in middle of nowhere in rural Iceland. The only reason this photo exists of this building is because it was leaked by someone from inside who had access. Why was it leaked, that what journalists are desperately trying to find out.

The Process, Narrated

I used Pixlr Editor to complete this assignment. I searched “architecture” in Google, and found stairs, a facade, a chimney, and another facade that I downloaded and inserted into Pixlr Editor as individual layers. I cropped and resized the images as I positioned them together in a way that appeared to make sense and organized. I used the brush tool to remove the background colors of each image, and then selected a black & tool white tool that converted the image into black and white. Here a few photos to document my process.

Sports Teams Mashup

The Work Itself

This assignment is titled “Your Favorite Teams Mashup“, its instructions are to “combine the logos of two or more of your favorite sports teams. Don’t just create an image with the two logos next to each other! Make the final logo look natural and cohesive.” It is currently rated 3.5 stars for difficulty. I mashed up the Oilers logo, Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket, and Falcons logo together. Here it is on my flickr.

The Story Behind The Story

In this case, the yellow jacket is prey for the falcon. To observe the land better and for hunting purposes, the falcon likes to perch atop tall places and see what is below. The falcon finds a oil rig tower (oilers logo) and sits on top until it sees its prey. Eventually the falcon spots a yellow jacket, the falcon swoops on top of it, and grabs it with its talons. It brings the prey back to the oil tower, where the falcon will eat the yellow jacket. I chose these logos because I wanted to make it as realistic as possible and as relatable to nature as possible.

The Process, Narrated

I googled searched an image of the “Oilers”, “Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket”, and “Falcons logo”. I then opened up Pixlr Editor. I inserted each image as a “layer” into from my desktop into Pixlr Editor. I then used the shaping/cropping tool to position and either minimize or enlarge the photos as I desired. I used the paint bucket tool to fill in the background color all white. I horizontally flipped the yellow jacket so it would be facing away from the falcon. In this position the yellow jacket appears dead or more so than if it were facing towards the falcon. Here a few photos to document my process.

The Story Behind The Story

Infinity ward and Activision have created a new video game, “Call of Duty Heroes”. Building off of the recent ISIS attacks, this game aims against ISIS. Within the campaign mode, the gamer can choose between the path of Superman or Batman and fight against ISIS. There is a different storyline for Batman and Superman, but the end goal is the same, to destroy ISIS. This game is available for Xbox 1 and PS4, pre-order a copy now and get 5% off!

The Process, Narrated

I used two video game covers to create this mashup. Call of Duty Black Ops and Justice League Heroes. I found the images of these respective game covers that I liked and downloaded them. I dragged them into Photoshop from finder. I created new layers for each image. To combine the texts, I cut “heroes” from its layer and pasted it on top of “Ghosts”. I simply replaced heroes with ghosts. I did the same thing for the image of superman and batman. Using the box tool, I selected their bodies and cut it from its original layer and then pasted onto this new layer over the Call of Duty soldier image. I repeated this process for the rating pending, “infinity ward”, and “Activision”. I dragged each image off google and pasted it onto this layer. I minimized each image so it would appear that it was one image with the justice league heroes. Here a few photos to document my process.

The Story Behind The Story

My friend Sean Prin has been sick the last few days and my roommates and I have forced him to wear a mask and maintain a a 3 ft radius from anyone of us. These tactics are in an effort to keep the rest of us healthy. His face of amazement and disbelief stems from the moment I told him that he no longer has to wear the mask. After much consideration, my roommates and I agreed that the sickness was no longer contagious so he was no longer a threat to our health. This is what friends are for…looking after each other for the better of everyone.

The Process, Narrated

I took two pictures of my friend Sean and matched to the appropriate emojis. I simply took the photos with my iPhone, emailed the images to myself and downloaded the images. Then I searched the matching emojis on google images and found the ones I wanted and downloaded those to my desktop. I uploaded the images directly into my blog post. I arranged the corresponding photos horizontally so as to show which emoji goes with what photo. Here a few photos documenting my process.
